�°IVo <br /> CITY OF ORONO <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> �l,k 4�G NO. 7554 <br /> EsHO <br /> A RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD MAY 13, 2025 <br /> TO FILL A VACANCY ON CITY COUNCIL <br /> WHEREAS, the council accepted the resignation of a City Council Member Matt Johnson and <br /> declared a vacancy on November 12, 2024; and <br /> WHEREAS, Claire Berrett was appointed to fill the position on November 25, 2024; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City is required to hold a special election pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 412.02; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the City adopted ordinance 307 establishing the process for a special election; and <br /> RESOLVED that the Orono City Council orders a special municipal election to be held on <br /> Tuesday, May 13, 2025 to fill the vacancy on city council as follows: <br /> 1. the city clerk is directed to notify the county auditor, secretary of state, and the polling <br /> places by February 12. <br /> 2. the candidate filing period will open for two weeks beginning March 4. <br /> 3. absentee voting will open March 28 and the ballot board will accept and reject ballots at <br /> least every five days until May 2. <br /> 4. health care facility voting services will begin April 23. <br /> 5. direct balloting will open on April 25 and the ballot board will continue to accept and reject <br /> envelope ballots at least every three days until May 13. <br /> 6. Saturday voting will be open May 10. <br /> 7. polling places will be assembled by May 12 and removed on May 14. <br /> 8. the city council will hold a special meeting to canvass the results on May 23. <br /> 9. the contest period will end and certificate of election will be issued May 30. <br /> Adopted by the City Council of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting held on February 10, 2025. <br /> ATTEST.
