AGENDA ITEM <br />Date: February 10, 2025 <br />Title: Safety Improvements to the Police Department <br />Presenter: Correy Farniok, Police Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br />Item: 8 <br />Purpose: <br />To seek approval from the council for safety improvement projected for the police department. <br />2. Background: <br />In response to increased security concerns and potential threats to public safety, a safety <br />improvement identified the need for enhanced protective measure in the police department. <br />Ballistic glass provides a critical barrier against firearm related incidents, provides enhanced glass <br />breakage protection, improves safety for employees, victims and visitors at the police department. <br />Features of the product: <br />• Enhanced Security: Protects employees and the public from potential armed threats. <br />• Crime Prevention: Deters attacks and potential break ins to the police department. <br />• Industry Best Practice: Other municipalities have successfully implemented ballistic glass <br />as part of their security infrastructure. <br />3. Scope: <br />The scope of the project is to add 142 sq ft of bullet resistant laminate to select OPD windows. <br />4. Cost: <br />The estimated cost for product, window prep and installation is estimated at $32,537.85 <br />Funding: <br />This project was identified and approved in the 2025 Capital Improvement Plan. The funding <br />source for this project will be from the Police Forfeiture (Treasury Funds). <br />6. Staff Recommendation: <br />It is recommended that the council approve the proposed safety improvement project and allocate <br />the necessary funds from the police forfeiture account. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />The council to approve the proposed safety improvement project and the use of Police Forfeiture <br />account to fund this project. <br />Exhibits <br />Police Safety Improvements 2025.pdf <br />40 <br />
