Stat. § 206.90, subd. 6. <br /> When more than one of the following offices is on the ballot, the offices <br />must appear in this order: <br /> • FEDERAL OFFICES. <br />• STATE LEGISLATIVE OFFICES. <br />• CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS. <br />• COUNTY OFFICES AND QUESTIONS. <br />• CITY OFFICES AND QUESTIONS. <br />• TOWN OFFICES AND QUESTIONS. <br />• SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICES AND QUESTIONS. <br />• SPECIAL DISTRICT OFFICES AND QUESTIONS. <br />• JUDICIAL OFFICES. <br />Minn. R. 8250.1810. The name or number of the appropriate municipality, school district, or <br />special district may be added directly under the types of offices. Election <br />rules further spell out how this section of the ballot must be designed, as <br />well as the order of offices and questions under each general category. <br />Minn. R. 8250.1810. <br />Minn. Stat. § 205.17, subd. 5. When a special election is held in conjunction with a regular election, the <br />vacant offices must be listed with the offices of the same type but after any <br />offices for which candidates will be elected for a full term. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The names of the candidates to fill a vacancy in the office of a council <br />member in a statutory city shall be listed under the separate heading <br />“Special election for council member to fill vacancy in term expiring <br />........,” with the date of expiration of the term and any other information <br />necessary to distinguish the office. Under the heading for the office of <br />mayor shall be the words “To fill vacancy in term expiring .............” <br /> For charter cities, consult the charter to see if the charter provides the <br />process for special election candidates to be placed on the ballot. If the <br />charter is silent, the city may follow the provisions for statutory cities. <br />Consult the city attorney for specific legal advice. <br />Minn. R. 8250.1810. Stat. § 206.90, subd. 6. <br />Below the instruction, the candidates’ names should be listed. Below the <br />name of the last candidate for each office, there must be write-in lines <br />equal to the number of candidates to be elected for that office, allowing <br />voters to write in the names of persons not on the ballot. <br />23
