A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL ZONE SPEED LIMIT ON <br />OLD CRYSTAL BAY ROAD NORTH <br />WHEREAS, the Orono School District has school facilities on both the east and west sides <br />of Old Crystal Bay Road North between Trunk Highway 12 and County Highway 6; and <br />WHEREAS, under Section 169.14, Subdivision 5a of the Minnesota State Statues, local <br />authorities may establish a school speed limit within a school zone of a public or nonpublic school upon the <br />basis of an engineering and traffic study; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has completed an engineering and traffic study for Old Crystal Bay Road <br />North between Trunk Highway 12 and County Highway 6; and <br />WHEREAS, in the interest of public safety the recommendation in the engineering and traffic <br />study is that a 25 mph school speed zone limit be established in the vicinity of the Orono School facilities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, per Minnesota State Statues school speed limits shall be in effect when children <br />are present, going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours or during school recess periods; and <br />WHEREAS, the school speed limit of 25 mph shall be effective upon the installation of <br />appropriate signs designating the speed and indicating the begirming and end of the reduced speed zone. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS THEREBY RESOLVED, that the Orono City Council <br />designates a 25 mph school speed zone on Old Crystal Bay Road North in the vicinity of the Orono Public <br />School Facilities and the appropriate signs designating this speed limit be installed. <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Miimesota at a regular meeting held January 11, <br />1999. <br />Gabriel Jabbour, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Linda S.
