RESOLUTION #1160 <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF EXCELSIOR IN <br /> IDENTIFYING PUBLIC NEED FOR CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN <br /> RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY IN THE CITY OF EXCELSIOR <br /> WHEREAS, the Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company <br /> has notified the City of Excelsior of its intention to file for <br /> abandonment of its Hopkins to Norwood rail line on or about May 31, <br /> 1980 , and � <br /> WHEREAS, said rail line runs through the City of Excelsior <br /> with a right-of-way width varying from 50 feet to 100 feet, and <br /> WHEREAS, said rail line corridor provides a convenient link <br /> to many metroplitan area locations if utilized for mass transit purposes, <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, said rail line right-of-way is also ideally suited <br /> for a public utility corridor through the City of Excelsior, and <br /> WHEREAS, portions of said right-of-way are suited to other <br /> � <br /> _ public uses such as public parking and local transportation improvement. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City <br /> of Orono that Orono supports the City of Excelsior ' s resolution regarding <br /> an overwhelming public need to retain the abandoned Chicago and North- <br /> western Railroad Right-of-Way for future public use such as a mass transit <br /> corridor, public utility corridor, central business district parking <br /> or local transportation improvements. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council requests approval <br /> of the Interstate Commerce_ Commission for a 180 day public use negotiation <br /> period in the event abandonment of said rail line is approved by the <br /> Interstate Commerce Commission. <br /> Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota at a regular <br /> meeting held June 30 , 1980 . � <br /> William B.
