Members of the Orono City Council <br />22 November 1989 <br />Page 3 <br />We believe that the water drainage proposal, prepared by Herb <br />Baldwin and reviewed with the City Engineer, will completely deal <br />with runoff. A line of 6" perforated drain tile will conduct <br />water to a wet well witn a perforated cover from where it will be <br />dispensed to and percolated through the 75'-250' area (see <br />exhibit A). The existing terrain along the house already drops <br />away from the lake embanrment so that the proposed arrangement <br />will simply be a reinforcement of current drainage patterns. We <br />are also willing to eliminate 68 s.f. of stone steppers and 16 <br />s.f. of retaining wall to further reduce the impact of water <br />runoff (see exhibit B). The retaining wall, screened by <br />plantings along the lake side, is itself an effort to manage <br />water runoff, in this case so that it does not further erode the <br />embankment, which is already slumping in spots. <br />Finally, we wish to bring to your attention the fact that <br />hardcover additions within the 0'-75' setback zone will represent <br />only a small percentage increase. That has always been their wish. We believe our <br />proposal accomplishes this while satisfying the requirements of <br />Orono's ordinances and provisions for hardship variances.
