Lake Use Committee <br />3. Deposit Refunds <br />August 20, 1990 <br />Grathwol moved, Reese seconded, to recommend to the Board <br />the following deposit refunds: <br />a. Lake Masters Swim Club, Minnetonka Challenge 5 Mile Swim <br />(7-21-90) <br />b. Zuhrah Shrine Skippers Boat Parade (7-15-90) <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />4. Water Patrol Report <br />Chandler said there have been five personal in.iury and four <br />property damage accidents reported to the State. There have been <br />79 BWIs issued. 76 by the Water Patrol, two by the DNR and one <br />by the City of Orono police. The total for Hennepin County is 84 <br />BWIs. Chandler detailed the circumstances of the burning of a <br />22' boat in Brown’s Bay, and a personal in.jury accident when a <br />boater fell out of a boat. Of most interest was the sinking of <br />the charter boat Paradise Princess on August ll^*" It was caused <br />when the entire party » nt to the stern end of Uic* upper deck for <br />a wedding ceremony ro.'ulting in the stern taking on water <br />unnoticed by the pilot, the boat filling with water too fast to <br />pump out. The Water Patrol response time was two minutes. It <br />was aided in removing passengers by a pontoon from tlie Minnetonka <br />Yacht Club. There were no injuries. <br />Chandler said the Water Patrol is meeting with r.hc Lake area <br />investigators to break a suspected boat theft ring. <br />Responding to a question from Cochran, Chandler said the <br />County Attorney will not prosecute felony charges against the hit <br />and run boat operator who struck a 16’ boat off Casco Point in <br />Spring Park Bay. The Water Patrol is talking to the LMCD <br />prosecutor about pressing misdemeanor charges. <br />Reese commented on the quick response from area rescue <br />personnel and the Water Patrol when he assisted a personal <br />watercraft operator who had been injured after losing cortrol of <br />his watercraft. <br />5. Meeting Date of Subcommittee <br />It was agreed the subcommittee to review the Hennepin County <br />Joint and Cooperative Agreement between the Sheriff’s Water <br />Patrol and the LMCD will meet on Wednesday, September 121h at <br />7:30 a.m., a place to be determined and committee members to be <br />notified <br />6. Additional Business Recommended by the Committee <br />Inter-Agency Agreement on Dredging. The Executive Director <br />reported that following a meeting wich DNR and Watershed District <br />representatives, Foster, Cochran j*nd himself, the DNR was to <br />respond with a further revised drat.-. The Executive Director <br />will follow up on the draft Agreement status.
