/
<E>
Test pit 14 was 7 feet deep, and encountered 2* of
sandy clay (fill) overlying 1' of black organic silt with roots,
2' of brown grey medium to coarse silty sand, emd 2* of sandy
clay, tough.
Test Pit #5 was 8 feet deep and encountered u feet of
sandy clay (fill) overlying 1 foot black organic sandy silt
1 foot silty sand and sandy clay.
It was recommended that the organic sandy silt material
exposed at test pits 3,4 and 5 be removed down to suitable
inorganic soil. This organic material is present in the east
and central portions of the building area and extends to depth
of 2-4 feet below footing grade.
A decision was made between the contractor emd owner to
excavate this material with a tracscavtor and then import fill tc
design footing grade.
The footing foundation plan for this structure indicated
that re-bar was not going to be used in the footings. We recommer
ded that 2#5 re-bars, continuous, be used. This recommendation
was accepted by the owner.
It was also recommended that soil borings be taken in
proposed adjacent buildings to better determine the extent of the
organic material and overlying fill. This knowledge would help
expidite the future construction process.
SUBTERRANEAN
ENGINEERING INC.
MINNEAPOLIS. MINN.A
