I Interoffice Memo
Date:
To:
July 25, 1990
Orono City Council
Mark Bernhardson, City Administrator
From:
Re:
Melvin Kilbo, Chief of Police
Bow & Arrow Deer Hunt
In the past few years, the City of Orono has allowed bow and
arrow deer hunting? permits on private property with certain
restrictions (such as 10 acre minimum property, etc.)
In reviewing records from the past two years, it was
determined that only five (5) deer were harvested in 1989,
and six (6) deer harvested in 1988. Mr. Larry Gillette of the Hennepin Parks indicated
that the deer herds remain very stable year to year, and
that all the hunting has done is shift the deer herd from
one location to another. The deer herd in Baker Park at the
present time is down to a manageable level.
The primary purpose of the City allowing permits in the past
I
