68-52
Sponsel Craft Builders -2-2/28/68
RESULTS
Logs of soils encountered, penetration resistances, and water level
observations are plotted on the attached soil boring log sheets.
In the area of the proposed house, the lot slopes downward from the
front house line to the area of boring ST-3. Sumac are growing in the
proposed house area.
Boring ST-2, taken near the front house line encountered a non to
slightly plastic fine sandy loam lensed with fine sand thruout its
20-foot depth. The topsoil appeared to have been eroded away in the
area of this boring. Boring ST-1, taken down the slope from boring
ST-2, encountered 1.5 feet of dark brown plastic sandy loam at the
surface. Between the 1.5 and 6-foot depths, this boring encountered a
silty clay loam and between the 6 and 15-foot termination depth, soils
similar to those encountered in boring ST-2 were indicated.
The north rear corner of the house was inaccessible to the equipment.
However, boring ST-3 was taken as near to the corner as possible. The
surface elevation at actual corner is on the order of 2 feet higher
than at boring ST-3. Boring ST-3 encountered a black plastic sandy loam
to the 4-foot depth. Topographic features would indicate that the depth
of black soils would be considerably less along the rear line of the
house. Soils ranging from a fine sand to a clay loam were encountered
to the 15-foot depth in this boring.
Penetration resistances recorded in the borings ranged from 12 to 40
BPF.
Water was encountered in probing only boring ST-3. Water was not
encountered in probing borings ST-1 and ST-2 to elevations 84.3 and
84.7 respectively. Water was indicated at the 4-foot depth or at
elevation 87 in probing boring ST-3. The current lake level is at
about elevation 87.7. Water levels should be expected to show normal
seasonal and annual fluctuations, and could be expected to vary with
the level of the adjacent lake.
RECOMMENDATIONS
We understand that a 2-story house with a walk-out basement to the rear
is planned for this lot. A proposed top-of-block grade on the assumed
datum of about 106 is currently planned. The corresponding approximate
footing grade in the areas of the respective borings has been plotted
on the appropriate soil boring logs.
No extensive depths of topsoils were encountered in the borings taken
on the knob and also on the slope. However, inspection revealed that
rather extensive depths of black organic materials could be anticipated
%oti imfiti fCii
1
