■ ^ City of the Village of Minnetonka Beach June 11, 1990 <br />Minnetonka Beach, having participated in LMCD's deliberations, <br />appreciates the considerable efforts of the many people who have worked <br />hard to develop LMCD's Long-Term Management Program. Much valuable <br />information has been compiled about the lake and its future. Many <br />desirable suggestions have been made for its management. <br />After considerable discussion regarding LMCD's Long-Term Management <br />Program the following resolution was adopted at the regular meeting of <br />the City Council held on June 11, 1990 upon motion by Councilman <br />Melamed, seconded by Councilman Broderson: <br />RESOLUTION NUMBER 1990-7 <br />WHEREAS, Minnetonka Beach is located in the center of Lake Minnetonka, <br />and virtually surrounded by its waters, and; <br />WHEREAS, Lake Minnetonka is its principal resource and the reason most <br />of its inhabitants have chosen to live in this residential community, <br />and; <br />WHEREAS, Minnetonka Beach and its residents have a vital interest in <br />seeing that the lake is managed and preserved as a precious local as <br />well as regional asset, and; <br />WHEREAS, The Village of the City of Minnetonka Beach has an established <br />Long Range Plan with a Mission statement which reads as follows; <br />The Village of Minnetonka Beach has, through its elected <br />officials, the mission to govern and provide services to residents <br />that will enable them to enjoy a quality of life that is . ^ . <br />comparable to the best available in Minnesota, consistent with the <br />present Village land areas, and to do so with minimum ordinances <br />and regulations. <br />Elected officials, employees and resident volunteers shall <br />anticipate community needs, ensure that the Village lives within <br />its means, and retain the confidence of the residents. <br />WHEREAS, parts of LMCD's program appear to give LMCD authority over land <br />use within 1,000 feet of the shoreline and over dock tnat extena <br />into the lake from shore which conflicts with portions of the Mission <br />statement that charge elected officials to govern and provide services <br />to those who live within its boundaries and do so with minimum <br />ordinances and regulations, and; <br />WHEREAS, Minnetonka Beach recognizes that there are 14 municipalities <br />whose lands adjoin the Lake and that the Metropolitan area, Hennepin <br />County and the State of Minnesota have interests and tnat there is a <br />need for cooperative effort by these governmental bodies in <br />conservation of the lake^ <br />1. That the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District is the logical <br />entity to best suggest guidelines, to encourage cooperative efforts <br />and to provide assistance as requested by individual municipalities <br />with respect to use, maintenance and protection of Lake Minnetonka. <br />1st of 2 Pages
