Date: October 28, 2024 Item: 17 <br />Presenter: Taylor Zinnel, Superintendent - Parks and Facilities <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Grant - Pickleball - Resolution 7522 <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />Approval to submit application for grant funding. <br />2.Background: <br />In 2021, a number of residents requested that Park Commission explore the possibilities of adding <br />pickleball in the the Orono parks system. In 2024 the city completed a pickleball masterplan <br />(Exhibit A) for the city owned parcel behind the willow drive fire station. Funding of the project <br />will heavily rely on donations and grants. The Orono Parks Legacy 501c3 in collaboration with the <br />West Lakes Pickleball Project is currently fund raising for the future project. The city has been <br />looking for suitable grant opportunities for the project. One possibility if the Age-Friendly <br />Minnesota (AFMN) Community Grant. Staff has started putting together an application for this <br />round of funding.
