ovtotQRONO DiSEBO^ <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON FEBRUARY 26. 1990 mar 1 ^ ^990 <br />The regular meeting of the School Board of Orono Independent School District No <br />278 was held on Monday, February 26, 1990. <br />Present:Dave McKown <br />Don Anderson <br />Kitty Crosby <br />James Franklin <br />John Maresh <br />Lucie Taylor <br />Thomas Mich <br />William Fenholt <br />UPON MOTION by Kitty Crosby, seconded by Jim Franklin, the consent agenda was <br />approved <as follows: <br />- approved the minutes of the February 12, 1990 regular meeting; <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 065360 through 065447; <br />- authorized administration to participate in the competitive grant program <br />for a teacher mentorship program. <br />Dr. Mich reported that a meeting of the Teacher Meet and Confer was held on <br />Feb>^uary 15, 1990 which focused on change and communication at the high school; <br />that the opening of bids was held on February 15 with about 125 bids received <br />and that more information would provided later in the meeting; that the North <br />Central Visitation was held on February 20 - 22 covering the areas of foreign <br />language, sov.ial studies, math, health and physical education and that the <br />report is positive with compliments for faculty and administration, as well as <br />our student body; that the position of assistant to the principal at the middle <br />school has been posted internally and that Warren Nelson will chair the commit­ <br />tee for this search with a recommendation to be made to the superintendent; that <br />Orono has two finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition - Paige E. <br />Scalf and Eleanor M. Wintson and he expressed congratulations to each of them; <br />that he wanted the Board to note that variance information is now passed on to <br />the Board in the information items; that he wanted to invite the Board to par­ <br />ticipate in the wellness program activities taking place in the District; that <br />he wanted to thank Sue Sjeklocha for her research in the competitive grant <br />program for teacher mentorship resulting in application to participate as <br />approved by the Board in the consent agenda. <br />Dr. Mien stated that the AMSD 1990 Legislative Proposals that they received in <br />their packets were prepared to provide an overview of the legislative proposals <br />that are being recommended by AMSD and also to provide information relating to <br />lobbying and the legislative process. <br />Dr. Mich stated that the Board had, in their packets, received proposed changes <br />in the program of studies at the high school plus a draft copy of the high <br />school registration guide. He stated that the Board is being asked to grant <br />approval on the changes in the program of studies but that approval is not <br />necessary for the registration guide, which is used as a communication device <br />for both students and parents.
