WMinutes <br /> City Council Regular Meeting <br /> Monday, September 9, 2024, 6:00 PM <br /> City Council Chambers 2780 Kelley Parkway, Orono, MN 55356 <br /> Crosby moved,Walsh seconded,to approve the promotion of Ben Veach to Lieutenant effective <br /> Sept. 10,2024,at a rate of$21 per hour. VOTE: Ayes 2,Nays 1 (Benson),Abstain 1 (Veach). <br /> PRESENTATION <br /> 9. Swearing in Ceremony-Firefighters <br /> Walsh swore in new Fire Fighter Oliver Kennedy and newly-promoted officers Chris Adams and Ben <br /> Veach. Family members presented their badges and they received flowers from the Orono Garden Club. <br /> 10. Gillespie Center <br /> Rhonda Nelson, director,provided an update on the Gillespie Center including program offerings, <br /> services, fundraising and the upcoming 25'Anniversary in 2025. It has been the norm to receive funding <br /> from the Cities served in the Westonka area. She requested a donation from the City of Orono of$12,000 <br /> per year or$1,000 per month. The City Council indicated the request would be considered with the 2025 <br /> budget. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> 11. Public Hearing—Vacate Easements—Honey Hill LA24-000030, 3465 6th Ave N&3515 6'Ave <br /> N, including PIDs 29-118-23-43-0013, 29-118-23-44-0004&29-118-23-44-0006 <br /> The City Council is requested to review the Staff report,receive a presentation, open a public hearing, and <br /> discuss and direct staff to draft a resolution of approval. <br /> The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff. <br /> Mayor Walsh opened the public hearing at 6:45 p.m. <br /> There were no public comments. <br /> Mayor Walsh closed the public hearing at 6:45 p.m. <br /> Veach moved, Crosby seconded, to direct staff to prepare a resolution of approval for the easement <br /> vacations for the Sept. 23 City Council meeting. VOTE: Ayes 4,Nays 0. <br /> ATTORNEY REPORT <br /> Brooksbank, substituting for City Attorney Mattick,had no report. <br /> COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REPORT <br /> Community Development Director Oakden said the department is in the process of accepting applications <br /> for the open planner position and is continuing to meet with applicants and keep up with permits and day- <br /> to-day activities.
