CITY OF ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. 7510 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION <br />FOR A HENNEPIN COUNTY YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM GRANT <br />WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, via the Hennepin Youth Sports Program, <br />provides for capital funds to assist local government units of Hennepin County for the development of <br />sports or recreational facilities, and <br />WHEREAS, City of Orono desires to develop a multi-use sports field and other park improvements at <br />Hackberry Park for the purposes of providing additional recreational facilities for youth sports within <br />Orono. <br />NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Orono City Council: <br />I.The estimate of the total cost of developing the park facility shall be $703,000. The Orono <br />City Council is requesting $ 300,000 from the Hennepin Youth Sports Program and will assume <br />responsibility for providing the remaining balance. <br />II.City of Orono is the owner of Hackberry Park where the facilities will be located and shall <br />continue to own the property for at least the functional life of the fields, which is estimated to be 20 years. <br />Hackberry Park may not be converted to a non-public or non-recreational uses within this time period <br />without the approval of Hennepin County. <br />III.City of Orono agrees to assume one hundred (100) percent of operational and maintenance <br />costs for the park. City of Orono will operate the fields for its intended purpose as stated in the grant <br />application for the functional life of the facility. <br />IV.City of Orono agrees to enter into necessary and required agreements with Hennepin County <br />for the specific purpose of developing project and managing its long-term operation. <br />V.That the Parks Superintendent for the City of Orono is authorized and directed to execute the <br />application for the Hennepin Youth Sports Program grant. <br />Adopted by the City Council of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting held on September 23, <br />2024. <br />ATTEST:CITY OF ORONO <br />_____________________________________________________________________ <br />Christine Lusian, City Clerk Dennis Walsh, Mayor <br />46
