Date: September 23, 2024 Item: 10 <br />Presenter: Taylor Zinnel, Superintendent - Parks and Facilities <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Grant - Hackberry Park Athletic Fields - Resolution 7510 <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this item is to gain Council approval to pursue a grant for funding of the Hackberry <br />Park project. A resolution is required for the grant application. <br />2.Background: <br />The Parks Commission and the City of Orono are committed to improving quality and accessible <br />spaces for community and local youth sports associations. This grant would open up an <br />opportunity to improve variety, quality, and safety with improved teeball/softball field and a <br />multi-use field for a variety of activities. Hennepin County Youth Activities Grant is due for <br />submittal by October 1st. <br /> <br /> <br />3.Cost: <br />Grants are available through Hennepin County for youth athletic fields. The maximum grant <br />award is $300,000 in which staff will be applying for the maximum for this project. Total cost of <br />this project will range from $750,000 to upwards of $1,000,000 depending on final scope of <br />project once awarded a grant.
