Date: September 23, 2024 Item: 5 <br />Presenter: James Van Eyll, Fire Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Hire Part-Time Firefighters <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this action is to gain approval to hire part-time firefighters and accept the <br />resignation of a part-time firefighter. <br />2.Background: <br />The Orono Fire Department is currently seeking part-time and paid-on-call firefighters. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, application screening, an <br />interview and background check. The interview was conducted by the Fire Chief and other fire <br />officers. The applicants must successfully complete a Psychological Exam, a Physical (Pre- <br />employment medical) exam and a probationary period. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Sam Goecke has 7 years of experience as a firefighter with other departments. He has passed <br />Firefighter 1 & 2 and EMT. H e is excited to become a charter member of the Orono Fire <br />Department and he looks forward to creating the best department. <br /> <br />Doug Swerdfiger has 14 years of experience as a firefighter with another department. He has <br />passed Firefighter 1 & 2 and EMT. He is excited to become a charter member of the Orono Fire <br />Department and he looks forward to creating the best department. <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />I recommend that we accept the resignation of Firefighter Jackson. <br />I recommend Sam Goecke and Doug Swerdfiger for a conditional job offer as part-time <br />firefighters with an effective start date of September 24, 2024. <br />Pay.
