Page 30 of 150 <br />To be considered for tuition reimbursement, the full-time employee must be in good standing and have <br />been employed by the city for at least one year. Employees must submit the tuition reimbursement <br />form to the City Administrator for consideration. <br /> <br />Courses taken for credit at an approved educational institution must meet the following criteria to be <br />approved for reimbursement: <br /> Courses must be directly related to the employee’s present position (whether required for a <br />degree program or not) OR <br /> Educational goals must be aimed at completion of a certificate, undergraduate or graduate <br />program. <br /> Courses must be directly related to a reasonable promotional opportunity in the same field of <br />work as present position (whether part of a degree program or not). <br />The city will pay the cost of tuition upon successful completion (C grade or better; “pass” in a pass/fail <br />course) of the approved course. Reimbursements will be prorated for part-time employees. Employees <br />must reimburse the city if they voluntarily leave employment within twelve months of receiving tuition <br />reimbursement from the city. Tuition reimbursement for an individual employee is subject to funding <br />availability. <br /> <br />Section 9.06 Worker’s Compensation <br />In accordance with the laws of the State of Minnesota, the City provides coverage for medical expenses <br />in the event of work-related injury or disease, plus partial salary continuation in the event of disability, <br />and additional benefits if the injury or disease causes partial or permanent disability or death. <br /> <br />Employees on a workers’ compensation related leave have the option use sick leave to up to the <br />difference of the Workers’ Compensation salary continuation and the employees regular pay amount. <br />In no case shall an employee’s workers’ compensation and sick leave use exceed their normal pay <br />check. <br /> <br />Employees are automatically covered under the workers' compensation plan as soon as employment <br />begins. To be eligible for workers' compensation, the injury or disease must arise out of and occur <br />during the course of employment. <br />The City pays the entire cost of this protection. Benefits paid depend entirely on the benefit schedule <br />set up by the State of Minnesota and applicable at the time the work-related injury or disease is incurred. <br /> <br />If an employee has a work-related injury or disease and is under a doctor's care, that employee cannot <br />change doctors for treatment of this work-related injury or disease without first contacting the City’s <br />workers' compensation company and obtaining approval to make this change. <br />89
