I- <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />DATE: <br />Mayor and City Council <br />Pon M' 1, City Administrator /\ <br />December 5, 1991 <br />SUBJECT: Repeal of Minnesota's President*al Primary <br />I have attached a letter from State Representative Steve Smith <br />concerning the repeal of th^ Minnesota Presidential Primary. <br />Many citis» have adopted resolutions calling for the repeal. The <br />major issues are as follows: <br />1. The Primary will cause additional cost to local <br />governments without providing additional funding. <br />2. Many see the Primary as an inexpensive way for <br />political parties to obtaif.- .ists of voters by party to <br />use in their campaign and fund raising activities. <br />3. The Primary does not directly affect the el»>ction of <br />candidates to public office. <br />The Council may wish to adop*- a resolution similar to the <br />attached ''’ity of Mound's resolution calling for the repeal of <br />Minnesota: a Presidential Primary.
