WHERE THE WEST BEGINS
P?sfotligntirg
Dob *B«bb ** Gaspar
Dob
IcBOvB aa
Gaapar, affoctiopately
**Boao'*» lived Ir Long
®*Bke for 3C years before recently
noving to Maple Plain. ijc has
worked diligently for Long Lake
since 1975 when ha was . hire"'
to over see the Parka. Beo
now works with Harv with wat'
and sewer end piBch-hlttln^ wit
Streets and parks as Beodeu.
The Long Lake Fire Depa^tnent
has been a "second** job fof Bean
since 1974. When not wearing
a City enifors, he loves to hunt,
fish and travel. '
Bean Is a task naathr
keeping a tight rein on ell of
ns at City Hall — just to be
sure we're all working. His
delightful senea of hunof and
sense of dedication to tho City
gives sa great pleasure in
spotlighting this valued employee.
%
MAYOK'S COMMENTS
As this last quarter of
the year begins, I want to address
the residents of Long Lake on
a nunber of issues. Sone of
which we need to face, >as a
coasunlty, head on — and others,
I Jttst want to say thank**you
for a job well done.
The Major concern facing
all of us is thd poteiitiaT loss
of our city to Highway 12. I
SB disBayed by the nunber of
Orono residents that have spread
sisinforeation to our connerclal
and residential citlxens regarding
the iapact of this project.
Let BO set Long Lake straight
about the devastating effect
the "current corridor" will have
on our city. The most rccont
^i^swlng I have seen eliminates
ALL residences and businesses on the
north side of 12 from the Tealwood Town'
Homes west to Brown Road ~ including
Burnet Realty, Rettingors, Red Rooater,
the Coast (old bank building) the Pro*-
fessional Building, Vaterinary Clinic,
Brass Bell, Kenny’s, Burger King, and
the Long Lake State Bank. Billy's would
bo unable to remain open aa their parking
lot would be gone. Rcsldances east
of Billy's worrid have NO across as well
as having a frontage road replace part
*>r all of their homes. Homes on '-the
;uth side of 12 would be lost Insdd'ltlon
the new Bayshore townhomea~'and "tlie
-keside Liquor building. This route
liierelly makes "ribbons'* out -of LL.
Th<> other proposed drawings show the
elimination of Green Glen Park, Hay
Street Apartments, the multi-family
duplexes on Dexter, City Hall, and all
the residences west of Brown Road • on
Orchard Drive ludlng Hollbrook- Park,
Still another osed routing eliminates
the Industrial Park by following the
North side of the tracks. ■ -
NOV Is Che time for all of • you
to TALK BACK to NNDoT and to those vocal
Orono citizens who think it is Just
fine to destroy LL by keeping it bn
the current corridor. BAH HUMBUGI
What happened to Impacting the least
and benefltting the most? The current
senario reminds me of my childhood
Spiderman Comics — something to the
effect of all powerful! But I ask those
proposing the "cOrrant *corrT<ror," ' "Vlth
power, does It not come with
respvnslbillty? There will be a
citizens' information roaatlng October
24th at St-. George's and I UIGB you
to attend to make your voices heard:
NOT IN LONG LAKEIIII
Now for some ocher items of interest
to you. Your Council has been very
responsible with their decision making
despite the negative press LL has baen
receiving. For the $240,000 we pay to
Orong for Police protec...on, Che Council
has asked for some accounting information
— what the lOX administration charge
la used for; what the 6K contract fse
is for; do the charges accurst'^ly raflact
miles of public versus pri te roads
CITY HALL: 1944 PARK AVCNUE • lOn C LAKE, MINNESOTA SS354 • PHONE; (6!2)4i3-&94l
