Date: July 8, 2024 Item: 12 <br />Presenter: Natalie Nye, Planner <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: #LA24-000032, 3745 Shoreline Drive, Variances - Resolution 4792 <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The applicant is requesting sign area variances for a new digital sign. <br />2.MN§15.99 Application Deadline: <br />The application was received on May 22, 2024 and deemed complete on May 23, 2024. The 60- <br />Day timeline for review expires on July 22, 2024 <br />3.Background: <br />The applicant, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, is proposing to update an existing freestanding <br />sign on the property. The existing sign includes a changeable copy area and the new sign will <br />replace this portion of the sign with a digital display. The existing sign is 40.6 square feet, <br />exceeding the maximum size area of 32 square feet that the code allows. The code also limits <br />digital displays to 35% of the sign area. The existing sign’s changeable copy area exceeds this at <br />approximately 61% (25 square feet). The proposed sign requires variances from total sign area as <br />well as percentage of digital sign area. <br />4.Planning Commission Vote and Comment: <br />The Planning Commission reviewed the application at the June 17, 2024 Planning Commission <br />meeting where a Public Hearing was held. The Planning Commission discussed the application <br />and noted it was similar character for the area and that the sign would be the same size as the <br />existing sign. The Planning Commission moved to approve the application as applied with a vote <br />of 7 to 0. The June 17, 2024 Planning Commission packet and meeting video can be found here. <br />5.Public Comment: <br />The applicant submitted letters of support from neighboring properties, which were included in the <br />Planning Commission packet.
