Changes in this document resulted from <br />review by the Community Education Services Advisory Council. <br />The Board appi oved learnt r-instructor ratio in Grades K-2 of an <br />average of 24:1 fo** 1991-92. <br />Recommendations of the language arts/reading and physical <br />education committees were discussed at the May Board work session <br />and referred to the Administration for review and recommendation. <br />The B '^rd approved the following; <br />Language Ai tsIReading Recommendations <br />• Integrate i ading with other language arts. <br />• Develop and implement whole language inservice training <br />program for teachers. <br />• Improve writing skills by developing spelling skills, teaching <br />keyboarding in . montary grades, and changing senior high <br />requirements <br />• Require high sci..^ ’ ■ * to complete one writing and one <br />literature course pnu: duation. <br />• Teach language skills in ...eaningful context; assess skills in a <br />variety of ways. <br />• Provide parents with frequent and useful feedback about student <br />progress in laneruage arts/reading. <br />• Expand students’ familiarity with literature. <br />•Revamp secondary reading clr s. <br />• Evaluate and redePne the role of the elementary writing specialist <br />during the 1991-92 academic year. <br />Physical Education Recommendations <br />• Develop a written K-12 physical education curriculum. <br />• Develop a comprehensive K-12 fitness program. <br />• Increase communication with parents; revise methods of reporting <br />student progress. <br />• Provide each student in Grades 1-6 with one hour of instruction <br />with a physical educatron spiecialist per week.
