1

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Description

Aspect Design Build (Aspect) is preparing for construction of a residential development in
Orono, Minnesota and retained Haugo GeoTechnical Services (HGTS) to perform a
geotechnical exploration to evaluate the suitability of site soil conditions to support the
proposed development.

Three soil borings were requested. Two (2) boring were requested within a gravel drive that
will be upgraded to a paved street and one boring requested for use in designing a stormwater
management area.

1.2 Purpose

The purpose of this geotechnical exploration was to characterize subsurface soil and
groundwater conditions and provide recommendations for pavement design and construction
and to provide estimated soil infiltration rates for stormwater management system design.

1.3 Site Description

The project site is located 3465 and 3515 6th Avenue N in Orono. Combined the 2 parcels total
about 13.8 acres. At the time of this exploration the 2 lots contained multiple single-family
homes, a pole barn and some smaller sheds. The lots contained open spaces, wetlands and
wooded areas. Access to the homes was via a gravel driveway (vacated Rocky Knoll Drive).

The site topography across the lots varied and ranged from about 978 to 1000 feet above mean
sea level (msl). The ground surface elevations at the soil boring locations ranged from about
983 to 997 feet msl.

1.4 Scope of Services

Our services were performed in accordance with the Haugo GeoTechnical Services proposal
24-0073 dated January 30, 2024. Our scope of services was performed under the terms of our
General Conditions and limited to the following tasks:

 Completing 3 standard penetration test soil borings each extending to nominal depths
of 10 feet.
 Sealing the borings in accordance with Minnesota Department of Health requirements.
 Obtaining GPS coordinates and ground surface elevations at the soil boring locations.
 Visually/manually classifying samples recovered from the soil borings.
 Performing laboratory moisture content and P-200 content tests on selected samples.
 Preparing soil boring logs describing the materials encountered and the results of
groundwater level measurements.
 Preparing an engineering report describing soil and groundwater conditions and
providing recommendations for pavement design and construction and providing
estimated soil infiltration rates for stormwater management system design.

207
