r <br />I <br />I- <br />% <br />fe.. <br />PI <br />»i ; <br />k- <br />i- <br />F-I-' <br />r <br />t-F. <br />( <br />m <br />00721 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 31-5-501 <br />The following resolution was offered by Commissioner Derus, seconded <br />by Conmissioner Andrew: <br />WHEREAS, Governor Carl so:, is expected to sign a tax bill providing <br />that county boards may vote to enact a 1/2 cent sales tax; and that <br />counties not levying such a tax will lose a significant amount of state <br />funding that helps pay for state mandated programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Cities within Hennepin County and cities and counties outside <br />of Hennepin County will be recipients of funding as a result of the 1/2 <br />cent sales tax levied within Hennepin County. <br />BE IT RESOLVED, That the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners requests <br />that the city councils vote by resolution by June 11, 1S91 requesting that <br />the County Board enact or reject this 1/2 cent sales tax. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the city councils also be requested to <br />express whether it would be their intent to ask for the local option if <br />the County decided not to. <br />Commissioner Andrew moved a substitute motion that the County Board <br />vote to reject implementation of the 1/2 cent sales tax. The motion was <br />seconded by Conmissioner Keefe. Chairman Derus called for a vote on the <br />motion to substitute and there being a voice vote, ruled the motion failed. <br />The question was on the adoption of the resolution and there were <br />Seven YEAS and No_ _ _NAYS as follows: <br />COUNTY OF HENNEPIN <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS YEA NAY OTHER <br />Peter McLaughlin <br />Randy Johnson <br />John Keefe <br />Tad Jude <br />Judy Hakowske <br />Mark Andrew <br />John E.
