BOARD.«gDArE <br />WATZATA PUBUC SCHOOLS Mav 19f»lMay 1991 <br />Hie regular meetiiig of District 284*s Board of Education was called to order on Monday, <br />May 13,1991 at 7:30 p.m. at Wayzata Senior High School. Present were Board <br />members Sliv Carlson, Howard Casmey, John Dettloff. Ken Hopkins. Paul Landry, Mary <br />Smith, Marilu Theodore, and Dave Landswerk, ex officio. <br />BECOa <br />Employee of the <br />Month <br />Snyder Scholarships <br />WHS Principal Bob Endenbe announced that Senator <br />Durenburger phoned the school to notify them that Wayzata <br />Senior High School has been recognized as a 1991 National <br />School of EzceOence. Formal recogniiion will place in <br />the White House Rose Garden this fall <br />Becky Halvorson. District social worker, was honored as the <br />May Employee of the Month. She was the first social worker <br />employed by District 284. There is no published curriculum for <br />a school social worker. Becl^ creates solutions as needs arise. <br />She assists parents and children in crisis, works with police on <br />understanding student needs, and trains elementary students to be <br />careful with strangers. The District social worker program has <br />grown from Becky Halvorson serving eight schools to a staff of five <br />professionals. <br />Faith HuflRnn. representing the Wayzata Area Public Schools <br />Foundati(m. presented scholarships on behalf of the Robert D. <br />Snvder Memorial Scholarship Fund. Snyder was the superintendent <br />in District 284 for 23 years. Recipients of these awards for sununer <br />enrichment activities are: <br />Collin Arnett, Grade 1, Sunset Hill <br />Ian Colter Nicklin, Kindergarten, Sunset Hill <br />Erie Lee, Grade 8, Wayzata West <br />Ryan Lee, Grade 5, Greenwood <br />Tom Richardson. Grade 6. Oakwood <br />Meg^ Complin, Grade 6, Sunset Hill <br />Jennifer Larson, Grade 7, Wayzata West <br />Molly Larsen, Grade 4, Gleason Lake <br />Rob Meyers, Grade 8, Wayzata West <br />Jessica MiU^ell, Grade 6, Sunset Hill <br />Gary Siaw, Grade 11, WHS <br />§
