They encouraged him to continue nis efrorts <br />to get the LMCC to focus more attention on developing the Or.ono <br />studio. <br />(#13)RIGHWAY 12-CITY ADOPTED POSITION , . <br />Bellows suggested that Council may wit'.h t-o include a <br />response to comnents made by Steve Hiy, which appeared in an <br />article in the April 3, 19U edition of the "Sailor newspaper. <br />She said, "I hate to say this, b.it everything that Ea Cohen <br />predicted is coming true, according to this article. <br />Mayor Peterson noted that Mr. Hay had responded to tne <br />City’s position before the City could send that information to <br />him She also stated that the article appearing it tne <br />"Pioneer", reporting on the Mar.Th 25, 199x Council meeting, and <br />n.«r soecificauy, tne Council's adoption of tne PUnmn, <br />Commission*s recommendation, was incorrect. £ae tead aloj <br />portion of the article, which stated that the City Council had <br />voted unanimously to adopt the recommendation in its entirety. <br />Rosemary Schauer, a reporter for the "Pioneer". explained <br />that the City Administrator was on vacation, and the Pioneer <br />staff had checked with City Sr.aff, uo until closing time on <br />V/ednesday, to see if the minutes were completed so they could <br />check their information. Sne apologized, and stated that e <br />Pioneer would print a retraction in the next issue. <br />Callahan stated that it wns his understanding that i"ouncil <br />had adopted the Planning Commission's recommendation ;.n its <br />entirety, and that is the action he wanted to take. <br />Butler added, "I made the motion, and CounciImember <br />Callahan's understanding of it is correct." <br />Mayor Peterson stated that she had seconded Councilmember <br />Butler's motion, but had thought the motion excluded the last <br />paragraph, containing language about future consolidation of the <br />Long L?ke and Orono, from the recommendation Ccjuncil <br />was accepting as their position. <br />CounciImembers discussed their interpretation of the motion <br />made at their March 25, 1991, Council meeting, to accept, ana/or <br />adopt, the Planning Commission's recommendation. <br />Jabbour stated that the last paragraph of the recommendation <br />suggested that the two Cities may consider consolidating at some <br />time in the future. He believed that Council should accept the <br />recommendation as Councilmember Butler's motion intended. <br />It was moved by Mayor Peterson, seconded by Jabbour for the <br />- 18 -
