Date: June 10, 2024 Item: 11 <br />Presenter: DJ Goman, Public Works Superintendent <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Appoint Public Works Maintenance Worker <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of the action item is to gain authorization to fill a vacancy in the Public Works <br />Department and to appoint Joseph Cuta as the full time maintenance worker. <br />2.Background: <br />The Public Works Department currently has five full time maintenance workers with an open <br />position. The maintenance worker position is critical to meet current service needs and essential to <br />city operations. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, application screening, <br />interviews by Public Works Supervisor, maintenance worker staff and practical exercise testing. <br />The process included a background and criminal history check. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Joseph Cuta has prior experience operating industrial pumps. Joseph is excited about the <br />opportunity to work for the City of Orono Public Works Department. <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />I recommend the hiring of Joseph Cuta as a full-time public works maintenance worker with an <br />effective start date of June 24, 2024. <br />Salary. Starting rate of $30.18/hour (Grade 7/Step 1 of the IUOE Local 49 Agreement pay <br />scale). <br />Benefits. As a full-time employee, Joseph is eligible for benefits as outlined in the IOUE <br />Local 49 Agreement and personnel handbook.
