ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 26,1998 <br />(Tonkawa Shores Road Access, Continued) <br />dated October 23, 1998, subject to review and approval by the City Attorney and <br />City Staff. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />(#20 Follows Item #3) <br />CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S KZPORT <br />(#29) NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS REGARDING THE JOINT LONG LAKE/ <br />ORONO BRUSH AND LEAF DISPOSAL SITE <br />Mayor Jabbour stated due to the damage caused by the early spring and summer storms, the <br />City of Orono and Long Lake had jointly agreed to use the Long Lake Public Works site to <br />dispose of leaves and brush <br />Gappa commented a wood chipper had been brought in earlier and the downed trees were <br />shredded and the chips were hauled out. <br />Jabbour commented the site will be reopened this fall to accommodate the disposal of leaves <br />and brush. <br />Gappa stated the site is just for the disposal of leaves and brush and will remain open until the <br />end of October. Gappa commented a wood chipper had been brought in earlier and the <br />downed trees were shredded and the chips were hauled out. <br />John Dalbec, resident, expressed concerns over the location of the disposal site, noting that it <br />is situated in a residential area <br />Mayor Jabbour stated a decision was made after the storm to utilize that site to deposit the <br />downed trees and limbs in a joint eftbrt with Long Lake to clean up the debris after the severe <br />storms. Jabbour remarked the City of Orono has been taking steps to clean up that site. <br />John Dalbec stated in his opinion the City was not doing enough to resolve the problem. <br />Mayor Jabbour stated the disposal site is a permitted use in that residential area, noting he has <br />personally visited the site four times in an effort to address some of the concerns raised by the <br />citizens. Jabbour commented that in the case of an emergency, sometimes residents have to <br />put aside their ow n interests to accommodate the needs of the community <br />Dalbec stated there were other sites available throughout the City and questioned why those <br />sites were not being utilized. <br />22
