r Cohen asked from where the fuaoin-j for tne project wouxdcome. <br />Gerhardson replied, "MNDOT will pay for a large portion of <br />the project, bnt the City oi Orono will participate in the <br />acquisition of riyht~of ~way, and a percentage of '_.ie trafi-ic <br />signal cost." <br />Cohen asked why right-of-way acquisition is necessary and <br />what property would be acquired. <br />Rylander explained that tnere has been discussion about <br />extending the curb and gutter and storm sewer along the north <br />side of the Highway 12. <br />Gerhardson said, "That is correct. Acquisition will only <br />occur on the north side ol Highway 12, because of the restriction <br />on the south side in Long Lake. Tne acquisition is necessary <br />because of the turn lanes and drainage control. <br />Kelley asked if it would be necessary to take additional <br />right“Of—way in front or Otten Brothers. <br />Gerhardson stated that the additional right-of-way required <br />for this project was included in the commercial development of <br />the Otten property. He said, "It will be necessary to obtain <br />additional right-of-way from Otten Brothers east to the Orono <br />Shopping Center." <br />Cohen asked <br />condemnation. <br />if the acquisition would b?State <br />Mabusth said, "That is correct. However, due to the fact <br />that Orono's population exceeds 5,000, the City must share in the <br />costs." <br />Bellows asked if the City of Long Lake would share in the <br />acquisition costs. <br />Gerhardson replied, "The City of Long Lake will only <br />participate in the cost of traffic signals." <br />Kelley asked if the safety improvement plans have been <br />approved by the Long Lake and Orono City Councils. <br />Gerhardson replied, "The City Councils for Long Lake and <br />Orono have given preliminary approval. However, neither Council <br />nas given final approval." <br />Hanson asked Rylander to explain more specifically the <br />improvements planned for Brown Road North. <br />Rylander replied, "The road will be re-aligned to bo <br />straight across from an existing commercial driveway.
