Minutes <br />City Council Regular Meeting <br />Monday, May 13, 2024, 6:00 PM <br />City Council Chambers 2780 Kelley Parkway, Orono, MN 55356 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff and the applicant, Jon Hofer, 3339 Crystal <br />Bay Rd., including looking at variances allowed other properties in the same area and revisions made to <br />the request since reviewal by the planning commission. <br />Johnson moved, Veach seconded, to direct staff to draft a resolution of approval for LA24-000016 <br />variances.VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 1 (Benson). <br />Community Development director Oakden presented information on April and year-to-date building <br />permit revenue. <br />PARKS REPORT <br />18.Lurton Dog Park Parking Lot Project Award <br />The City Council is requested to review the Staff report, receive a presentation, and discuss and award the <br />contract for expanding the parking lot at Lurton Dog Park to low bidder Sunram Construction in the <br />amount of $74,730.00. <br />The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff. <br />Johnson moved, Walsh seconded, to award the contract to add parking at Lurton Dog Park to <br />Sunram Construction Inc. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />19.Golf Course Pavilion Project Award <br />The City Council is requested to review the Staff report, receive a presentation, and discuss and resolution <br />award construction of a Pavilion at the Orono Golf Course to sole bidder Mike North Construction at a <br />cost of $80,222 funded jointly by the Orono Lions, private donations and the City,partially from the <br />Parks Department and from the Enterprise Fund. <br />The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff. <br />Walsh moved, Johnson seconded, to award the contract to build the Golf Course Pavilion to Mike <br />North Construction. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 1 (Benson). <br />Park Director Lemons also reported on staffing and spring preparations for summer park activities. <br />PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT <br />10. Authorization to Hire Paid-On-Call Firefighters <br />The City Council is requested to review the Staff report, receive a presentation, and discuss and adopt the <br />resolution hiring two new paid-on-call fire fighters. <br />Veach moved, Johnson seconded, to make conditional job offers to Oliver Kennedy and Tyler <br />Rempel at $16.00 per hour starting May 14, 2024. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 1 (Benson). <br />5
