Leave Benefits During Probation. During the initial <br />probationary period, but not during a promotional probationary <br />period, an employee will not be paid for vacation leave from work <br />but will receive pay for legal paid holidays. After six (6) <br />months of service, an employee will be entitled to vacation leave <br />accrued from the start of probationary employment. Group health <br />and welfare benefits shall start a month after the first day of <br />the month following appointment; however, any waiting periods <br />shall be according to the terms of the group health policy. No <br />payment will be made for accrued leave during the probationary <br />period. Sick leave benefits shall accrue a^d accrued sick leave <br />may be used during probation. <br />6. Probationary Period. Probationary periods may be extended <br />under unusual circumstances for one (1) additional six (6) month <br />period at the discretion of the appointing authority. <br />204. TEMPORARY APPOINT <br />1. when Made. If necessary to prevent the stoppage of public <br />business or inconvenience to the public, the appointing authority <br />may make temporary appointments. <br />2. Termination. A temporary appointment shall terminate: <br />a. By action of the appointing authority; or <br />b. By the effective date of a regular appointment to the <br />position. <br />3. Benefits. No benefits shall be given for service rendered <br />under a temporary appointment, unless said temporary appointee <br />shall at the time of the appointment, be a regular or probationary <br />employee in another capacity, in which case the employee shall be <br />entitled to the same vacation leave and sick leave allowances that <br />are provided for probationary or regular employees. <br />205. BOORS OF WORK AND ATTENDANCE <br />1. Employees are expected to be regular in their attendance and <br />to observe the working hours established by the City for their <br />respective departments, division and position. <br />2. It shall be the responsibility of the employee to notify <br />their supervisor prior to the time set for beginning work, or as <br />provided by departmental rules, if unable to report to work as <br />scheduled. Employees who fail to notify their supervisor of their <br />inability to report for work shall be reported as absent without <br />leave, and shall be subject to disciplinary action, including <br />discharge.
