WestonkaSeniorCenterHome of theWestonka Senior Citizens, Inc.V •-/1 <br />^ W.t <br />> <br />i A ^ <br />a place <br />for you <br />iiii <br />Senior Community Servicee <br />4 The purpose of the Westonka Senior Center is to coordinate and provide activities which enhance self dignity and encourage self development and foster independence in later life.Our aim is to present a program broad enough that it will offer something to everyone.The Senior Center is a place where everyone is welcome, especially those 55 and over. It is a place where you remain visible and involved with the community.... a place to have a quality retirement. <br />The Westonka Senior Center started In <br />1981 with funds from the Metropolitan <br />Council's Program on Aging and with <br />funds from the Older Americans Act. <br />The sponsorship of the Center has <br />grown to include the four funding cities <br />of Minnetrista, Mound, Orono, and <br />Spring Park, Westonka School District <br />#277, Senior Community Services, <br />Volunteers of America, and the <br />Westonka Senior Citizens, Inc. <br />The Senior Center is a place for...DININGEnjoy a tasty, nutritional dinner provided by Volunteers of America. A suggested donation of $1.50 per meal, or what you can afford. No one will be denied for lack of donation. Reservations should be made two working days in advance. To reserve a spot call 472-0347.TRANSPORTATIONTransportation, to and from, is provided for the center, grocery shopping, medical appointments, special events, personal errands, and <br />Sunday worship services. Call 472- <br />0349, Monday-Friday 9:30 am to 2 pm, <br />for arrangements. <br />EDUCATION <br />Various educational courses are <br />provided. Classes are fun and provide <br />a good social setting. Included are <br />offerings in art, crafts, defensive <br />driving, cable TV., and humanities. <br />HEALTH <br />Enjoy our "Over .50 and Fit" excerise <br />program, blood pressure screening, <br />annual Health Fair, and additional <br />health educational programs. <br />SENIOR OUTREACHProviding outreach counseling and case management. We will assist seniors and/ or their families in obtaining the needed services. Cali 472-6499 for assistance.RECREATIONThere are plenty of opportunities to take a trip, see a play, attend our parties and special events, or take the time to chat and get to know other seniors in the community.SENIOR GIFT SHOPUse your talents in making crafts, and earn extra income by selling them in <br />our Senior Gift Shop. Open Monday- <br />Wednsday-Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. <br />SERVICES <br />Tax assistance, fuel assistance, <br />financial assistance, information and <br />referral and advocacy is available in <br />our building. <br />VOLUNTEERING <br />Become a volunteer and help our <br />center remain one Ihe best in the <br />state. Opportunities for volunteering <br />include receptionist, host, gardener, <br />fund raiser, friendly visitor, and driver. <br />Jl
