STREET NUMBERS REQUIRED ON HOUSES <br />The Orono Police Department would like to inform the public of the <br />necessity of readable numbers on houses and buildings within the <br />Orono jurisdiction. <br />Several emergencies have arisen and emergency personnel were <br />dispatched to a specific address. They were uneible to locate the <br />address, however, due to a lack of numbers on the residence causing <br />an unnecessary delay. <br />The following is the orono ordinance requiring the numbering of <br />houses and buildings. <br />SEC. 6.40. <br />Sutxl 1. <br />B <br />E. <br />NUMBERING OF HOUSES AND BUILDINGS <br />Duty df Owner or Occupent The owner or occupant o# <br />every occupied property and every house or oth«’ <br />building shall place on such building the proper ttreet <br />number for such building, either by painting or affixing <br />such number so that the number shall be claaiiy visible <br />from the sidewalk or street <br />Where the house is not visibie from the street or private <br />road, or m located more than 300 feet from such street or <br />raad. an additkxial set of numbers shaR be placed on a <br />sign at the driveway apron with numbers visible in both <br />directlona of travel on the street <br />Where more than one house Is served by the same private <br />driveway or unnamed txivate read, additional sets o# <br />numbers shall be placed at every fork or other driveway <br />as necessary to direct traffic to every house including the <br />house farthest from the street <br />Numbers placed on malboxes are irwjfflcient to <br />the provisions of this Subdivision except wh«i maibox <br />stands CXI subject property, not acroee e pubite street and <br />not in a group of malboxes more than one in nun^Mf. <br />The nwlmum sm for number shei be three Inches. <br />Numbers shal be reflectrve or of color contrasting w5h background. <br />In aJdition to complying with the City ordinance, placing readable <br />numbers on your house or building could be a life saver.
