MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD AUGUST 24, 1992 <br />LONG LAKE FIRE CONTRACT WORK GROUP - CONT. <br />Butler reiterated, the last comment made by the Long Lake City <br />Attorney at the last meeting was, “this offer can be withdrawn at <br />any time". She said she has lost confidence in the system, and was <br />not willing to volunteer a lot of staff time for this Issue. <br />Callahan noted the contract needs to be settled within 30 days, and <br />felt there would not be much staff time Involved in that short of <br />a timeframe. <br />Jabbour advised they should have an answer within 2 weeks. He <br />exp**essed concern over I inking the doI Ice department and fire <br />department service areas togetner. <br />Goetten felt this issue is linked to a much larger Issue, and the <br />fire department issue needs to be resolved if the two cities intend <br />tc work together in the future on anything else. She felt they owe <br />it to the resiaents to work through the contract with Long Lake, <br />but felt it important to document all meetings and decisions. She <br />stated she would be happy to help with the process and felt it may <br />be very Informative. <br />Mayor Peterson felt that the tendency is to combine issues arid felt <br />that should not happen with this issue. <br />Jabbour asked that he get a summary of the last 6 years of the <br />capital expenditure fund. <br />Rick Perry, Long Lake Fire Chief, noted there is money ir the fund <br />for new equipment. After 1992, the fund will contain $33,000. He <br />explained tret the firemen used to invest the money themselves, <br />but as of end of 1991, the City of Long Lake took over control <br />of the fu»:'Ji in that account. <br />Jabbour explained they are concerned that the City of Orono is not <br />recognized that they are 80X owners of all capital expenditures. <br />Perry noted it doesn’t matter who owns the equipment as it will be <br />traded in for new equipment when needed. <br />Jabbour explained that Orono has a ver> hign bond rating, opposed <br />to that of Long t.ake. He was concerned that major purchases would <br />be procured with Long Lake’s bonding rate. <br />11 <br />M <br />J
