I .r <br />MINIMUM FLOTATION SPECIFICATION <br />FOR STATES WITH FREEZE/THAW TEMPEPATURE CYCLES <br />A.Flotation shall be extruded or expanded polystyrene or <br />0.9#/cu.ft. minimum density Water absorption shall be less <br />than 3#/cu.ft. at seven days when tested by <br />Absorption Test." The foam shall be of consistent ^ <br />throughout the float and all beads shall be firmly bonded to <br />each other. <br />B.In order to prevent erosion of the polystyrene £°s"> it shall <br />be encased around all six sides with pressure <br />concrete, galvanized steel, aluminum, recycled plasuic lu^er, <br />high or medium density polyethylene, fiberglass <br />polyurethane coating. The enci iement shall i’* f“^9ned to <br />resist puncture and to prevent attack by ducks, f , <br />and other marine animals. Wood and recycled plastic <br />shall have a minimum thickness of 1 1/2 . Poured . <br />sprayed on concrete shall be a minimum of 2 thicx. <br />Galvanized steel shall be a minimum of ^^^auge with 2 ^ ounce <br />minimum coating. Aluminum shall be a minimum °£ -OiO <br />thick Medium density polyethylene, high density <br />polyethylene, fiberglass and sprayed or dipped polyurethane <br />coatings shall have a minimum thickness or l/o . <br />Additional encasement materials will be considered ^^®^ <br />provide the same relative protection as the materi <br />specified. <br />C.All flotation which is within 100' of the extended noszle of a <br />oasoline dispenser or within lOO’ of a line carrying gasoline <br />polyurethane foam is also acceptable as a flotation material. <br />For any floats installed after the effective date of this <br />specification, they shall require future replacement whenever <br />?Sr foam becomes visible thru the encasement or loose <br />particles of the foam appear on the water. <br />V ■
