Date: April 8, 2024 Item: 8 <br />Presenter: Josh Lemons, Parks & Golf Superintendent <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Hire Parks Maintenance Employee <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this item is to gain approval to appoint Gregory Fink to the vacant Parks <br />Maintenance position. <br />2.Background: <br />In March 2024, a vacancy in the Parks Department opened up and staff began to recruit for the <br />vacant position. The Parks Maintenance Worker position is critical to meet the maintenance needs <br />of the parks system, trails, and outdoor spaces for the City of Orono. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, application screening, and <br />interviews. Staff received over 40 applications for the Parks Maintenance position. Three <br />candidates were selected to participate in the interview process. The candidates were interviewed <br />by a panel made up of a department head, an administrative assistant, and a parks employee. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Staff is recommending Gregory Fink to fill the vacant Parks Maintenance position. Gregory has <br />over three years of golf course experience as an assistant at Interlachen Country Club and over <br />five years in landscaping. Gregory comes highly recommended by many in the golf community <br />and excelled during the interview process. <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />Staff recommends that Mr. Fink be appointed to the position of Parks Maintenance Worker <br />effective April 22, 2024. <br />a. Salary. Starting wage of $30.18 (Grade 7, Step 1) <br />b. Benefits. Vacation will accrue at a rate of 10 days per year and follow personnel policy. <br />Vacation and sick leave will begin on the start date.
