April 7, 2024 Our sincere apologies to the Orono City Council for not being able to be present for tonight's meeting. We learned of this discussion on very short notice,so we asked our neighbor's to share our comments. We did attend the prior meeting,and remain very concerned about a home being built considering the extreme proximity to lakeshore and impact on natural surroundings. At that meeting,we noticed the how the wall behind the city representatives has a hanging emblem for City of Orono displaying with pride how we are known as"The Lakeshore City." It is that same pride that motivates us and our fellow neighbors,who have spent years living in this location,to request serious consideration of whether this truly is a buildable lot. The landowner who long ago shared their opinion that this is a'buildable' lot was likely not overly sensitive to risk of damage to this low-lying forested wetland. More likely,they were motivated by the obvious added potential estate value,as any seller would be. It is this group that can now look back on that seemingly subjective 'buildable' proclamation, and make a more balanced, non-biased assessment that includes all of the necessary variables that will absolutely impact our natural environment.
