Prestin
Conaultanty Shoreland Rules Adoption
LMCD Tachnlcal Reviaw Comittee
610 Sixth Ave SE
Mlnryaapollt MN 55414
Dear Stevat
Confiraing our talaphone conversation of April 28, the problem
of boat storage on land has been brought to our attention by an
Orono council member.
Ona marina In particular stores an extraordinary number of boats
oo Its property. Some are In storage for service/maintenance.
Others are for sale by either the ovner or the marina operator.
LMCD expects some boats are stored for launching on call. Boats
for sale are also occasionally launched for use in the lake for
dMOonstration, or recreational use of the ovmer, »»hlch we are
unable to differentiate. A new-boat use Involves time-share
rental of boats which LMCD will address as its responsibility.
In order to more completely manage the growing density of boats
stored on land, we propose that a shoreland ordinance provision
be investigated in which cities regulate boats not for use on the
but stored in multiple dock licensed facilities.
Controlling numbers of boats siay be difficult due to the variety
of sixes. Therefore boat storage areas designated within a
multiple dock licensed facility may be more practical to regulate.
This should Include maintaining setbacks from property lines.
Xhls will then provide a distinction for LMCD to identify boats
stored for purpose of launching in the lake for recreational use.
LMCD does license boats used on the lake as off-lake storage.
You indicated some information may be available through regula
tions developed for boats stored at river sMrinas. We will
welcosie your research and recommendations which the cities may
consider. An introduction of this subject at the May 21 Technical
Review Coamittee would be appropriate also.
(continued)
....■'* ' A
_V1
f.J
4
