RESOLUTION #668 <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE REQUIREMENT OF A <br />REFERENDUM FOR A STADIUM <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legs -6t tune is now comiden i.ng the stadium <br />zs ue, and <br />WHEREAS, pubti,c o46.ici.a d and citizens aP.ike arse concerned that real <br />estate taxes wilt not have to be used as pant o6 the S.inat <br />solution, and <br />WHEREAS, cities throughout the United States have experr ienced vast cost <br />ovmuns, huge operating de6.ici tis, and <br />WHEREAS, at the local level government enables ,itis citizens to vote by <br />reJenendum on eveAyth.ing 4rom zchooZ6 to hockey minks, to park, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, we feel strongly that att public o44.ici.a 6 and citizem would <br />tike to keep the sports argaruzationz in the State o4 Minnesota, <br />we also heel very strongly that the people should be given the <br />oppontun-ity to vote on this .item since cases throughout the <br />United States demonstrate that the pubt i.c wilt -bear the burden <br />.ib our pubtic o64.iciatz' estimates ane .incorcrect. <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City ob ORONO <br />6utZy suppoAt6 thio resolution kequuting the e Legi6e <br />to put any 6tadium proposal to a vote o6 our people. <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota at <br />a regular meeting held March 8, 1976. <br />Robert L.
