Department <br />of Housing and Urban Development aimed to empower many low-income <br />famil l-.s to realize the American dream of homeownersh ip; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the public benefit to get vacant residential <br />properties, which have been foreclosed or tax-forfeited, back onto <br />the tax roles and available for new homebuyers; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the public benefit to enhance the <br />sufficiency of low-income families residing in our city and to <br />enable these families to become first time homebuyers; and <br />WHEREAS, Westonka Community Action Network (WeCAN) is applying for <br />a $50,000 HOPE 3 Planning Grant for the purposes of assessing the <br />feasibility of operating a homeownership program for low-income <br />families in this community; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of <br />supports WeCAN’s HOPE 3 Planning Grant applicatjon.
