Date: March 11, 2024 Item: 4 <br />Presenter: Christine Lusian, City Clerk <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Election Recap <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />Summary of election services for the Presidential Nomination Primary <br />2.Background: <br />Orono administered election services to our voters for the Presidential Nomination Primary. Only <br />presidential candidates from the three major parties appeared on the presidential primary ballot. <br />Elections results (attached) are considered unofficial until canvassed (March 8) and certified by <br />Hennepin County. <br /> <br />Election day voting was held on Tuesday, March 5 at each of the three polling places, Long Lake <br />Fire Department (Precinct 1), City Hall Council Chambers (Precinct 2), and Calvary Memorial <br />Church (Precinct 3). Public Works employees transported equipment and supplies to and from the <br />polling places the day prior and after election. Long Lake Fire Department and Calvary Memorial <br />Church employees cleared and provided space in their facilities. Below are a few notable election <br />day statistics: <br /> <br />6,361 pre-registered voters; 18 new registrations <br />855 election day voters (P1=325, P2=253, P3=277) <br />26 election judges <br /> <br />Early voting services were provided from January 19 to March 4 at city hall, including one <br />Saturday and outreach at two health care facilities. Additionally, direct balloting was available <br />February 16 to March 4. Some early voting statistics: <br /> <br />108 early voters <br />50 voted in person; 58 voted by mail; 10 voted from a health care facility <br />2 ballots were rejected <br /> <br />Special thanks to administration employee Nola Dickhausen for all her work assisting with <br />preparing and coordinating early voting, judges, training, and election day support! Thank you to <br />Clint Schumann and the Public Works crew for the secure equipment setup and storage. Thank you <br />to stand out election judges Cathy Wilkins, Kirk Nelson, Sandra Keegan, Joe Ruthenberg and <br />Katie Fitzimmons. Thank you to Long Lake Fire Department and Calvary Church for being strong <br />partners and allowing Orono voters to be in their spaces. <br /> <br />Preparation for county commissioner election services are underway, including ballot production, <br />equipment testing, and judge recruitment.
