Date: March 11, 2024 Item: 18 <br />Presenter: Josh Lemons, Parks & Golf Superintendent <br />Section: City Administrator/Engineer Report <br /> <br />Title: Acceptance of quotes for materials and services for the conversion of the <br />Public Works Facility to a Temporary Fire Station <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of the agenda item is to seek Council approval to begin the conversion of the current <br />public works building into a temporary fire station and accept donations of office equipment and <br />supplies. <br />2.Background: <br />The current public works building has been identified as a suitable location to become a temporary <br />fire station. Staff has met with different contractors to determine the feasibility of the project <br />while also securing cost estimates for the work that would need to be done to utilize the building. <br />Limited work would be required to use the facilities as a temporary fire station. The scope of <br />work would include electrical work throughout, new garage door openers and the addition of <br />sensors to garage doors, creating staff entrance door on the East side of the building, and re- <br />purposing several rooms for Fire Department use. The majority of the work to the building can <br />begin immediately and would be completed in sufficient time before the Fire Department begins <br />service. The City of Chaska Fire Department is also donating items to be used by the Orono Fire <br />Department. Equipment & Supplies $ 42,000.00 <br />Total $ 150,219.99 <br />4.Staff Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends approval to begin the conversion process of the current public works building <br />into a temporary fire station. Staff also recommends having the work completed by the vendors <br />that have submitted quotes. To ensure that the project can be completed in a timely manner, <br />approval of the project must take place.
