Date: March 11, 2024 Item: 12 <br />Presenter: Josh Lemons, Parks & Golf Superintendent <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Pickleball Project Grant Application - Resolution 7459 <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this item is to gain Council approval to pursue a grant for funding of the pickleball <br />project. A resolution is required for the grant application. <br />2.Background: <br />The Parks Commission has determined an ideal location to place pickleball in Orono. Staff has <br />begun to pursue different grant and funding opportunities in order to move the project forward. <br />The Minnesota DNR Outdoor Recreation Grant is due on April 1, 2024 and requires a resolution <br />from the City Council for the request to be considered. <br />3.Cost: <br />Grants are reimbursed up to 50 percent of the total eligible costs. The maximum grant award is <br />$350,000 (for a total project of $700,000). The minimum grant is $10,000 (for a total project cost <br />of $20,000). This program requires a one-to-one match. The match can consist of cash, the value <br />of materials, labor and equipment usage by the local sponsor, donations or any combination.
