Lake Use Committee January 13, 1992 <br />Rascop asked aoout David Lawrance’s comments about the <br />Minnehaha beinq in competition with the charter boats. He ques­ <br />tioned the appropriateness of sut>sidizinq one uroup. Reese said <br />the Minnehaha is not intended to be a party boat, as differenti­ <br />ated from the usual charter boat use. He added that the histori­ <br />cal value is siqnificant. <br />The executive director pointed out a 1/10/92 letter from the <br />Minnesota Transportation Museum, Inc. in which they I is* specific <br />needs. Foster suggested donating a $5,000 auxiliary diesel <br />engine. The executive director said for the same $5,000 the <br />District could get an item such as upper or lower deck seats, <br />with a plaque saying it is from the Save the Lake F'und. <br />Foster favors the idea of adding the Minnehaha restoration <br />to the donor card. Reese expressed concern that it would take <br />funds away from the EWM program, Reese would rattier commit from <br />funds on hand. Pillsbury expressed his opinion that it would <br />stimulate donations to tfie Save the Lake Fund. <br />Penn asked fot' information on how the Save the Lake funds <br />have been used in the past. <br />Pillsbury and the executive director are to prepare a letter <br />to the Board outlining various options for raising fun<ls for the <br />restoration of the Minnehaha. <br />H. Water Patrol Report. <br />Chandler reported: <br />^ An ultra light plane crashed in Jennings Bay. The FAA is <br />looking at charges against the operator as the plane, which fell <br />from 150’, was overweight for an ultra light. The injuries were <br />minor. <br />* One DWI has been issued. <br />* There have been 19 fish house break ins and 7 snowmobile <br />thefts. <br />* There have been 17 incidents of people goir>g through the <br />ice compared with 8 in the rest of the county. <br />* The Water Patrol has been working with the Lake area <br />Police Departments to try to contain the thefts. They have had <br />good response to date. A campaign is being mounted to have he <br />fish house owners keep their houses clear of anythirig worth <br />stealing. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information. <br />* A program similar to Crime Watch is being planned for the <br />marinas for the summer. <br />* Fifteen new Special Deputy trainees have entered the <br />program. They were recruited through newspaper, radio and TV. <br />They will have 200 hours of training continuing through June. <br />* The Water Patrol will meet on 1/17/92 with the State <br />Boiler Inspectors on how to continue with the rest of the recon­ <br />struction on the Minnehalia.
