Item No.: 3 Date: February 26, 2024 <br />Presenter: Christine Lusian <br />Presenter: City Clerk <br />Section:Consent Agenda <br /> <br /> <br />Title: Election Judge Compensation <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of the items is to establish election judge compensation rates for the 2024 elections. <br />2.Background: <br />Minn. Statute 204B.195 authorizes people to take paid time off from their regular jobs to train and <br />serve in elections. For people not working a regular job during elections, Minn. Statute 204B.31 <br />authorizes us to pay election workers, though election workers may decline and volunteer unpaid. <br />The table below is the proposed compensation for election workers in 2024. <br /> <br />Role Hourly Rate <br />Election Judge $15.00 <br />Absentee Judge $16.00 <br />Head Election Judge $17.00 <br /> <br />Minn. Statute also authorizes election employees to receive mileage reimbursement. Mileage will <br />be reimbursed at the IRS rate of 0.67 per mile for election-related tasks, such as pick up and return <br />of election equipment and supplies. <br /> <br />Head Election Judges are eligible for cell phone reimbursement in the amount of $10.00 each <br />election. <br />3.Staff Recommendation: <br />Approve election judge compensation <br />AGENDA ITEM <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Approve compensation rates for election judges <br />21
