ews etween <br />Association of Metropolitan Municipalities April 1993 <br />Awards, election highlight evening <br />Annual Meeting May 26 in Minnetonka <br />Mark your calendars for May 26, the evening tcheduled for Ihe AMM Annual Meeting. <br />The Minnetonka Community Center U the site of the Annual Meeting, which begins with a reception/^al hour <br />at 5:30 pan., vrith dinner and the business meeting to follow. <br />Activities include election of officers aiui board members and the <br />presenting of fi>e AMM Innovative Qty and Peacemaker awards. <br />Before the reception, tours of Minnetonka's police and }ail fadii- <br />lies %vill be conducted, beginning at 4:30 p m. <br />Hie three-year-old facility, constructed as part of an overall <br />oommurdty Qvic Center project, was a $3.1 million project funded <br />uritiiout a tax inoease by interest earned on investments by the <br />dty. The police building occupies about 23,000 square feet, and the <br />dty hall, fire station walkways and firearm range are in the remain ­ <br />ing 7,922. <br />The detention fadlity has six individual cell uiuts and one mul­ <br />tiple cell unit. To help reduce a detainee's anxiety, the department <br />selected colors for their subliminal eifect. Also, the facility has a 24- <br />hour, 7-day-a-%veek language line available for interpretation and a day room for recreation purposes. <br />People wanting to tour the fadlity may make arrangements with Carol Williams at the AMM ^fice, 49O-3301. <br />AMM awards competition under way <br />Nominations are being accepted for dte AMM's second <br />annual Innovative Oty Award, which will be presented <br />during the AMM Annual Meeting May 26. <br />Also, the AMM will present its first Peacerroker Award <br />to the dty that has reserved a difficult or urUque situation <br />by meaits other than die court system. <br />The Innovative City Award recognizes die dty duit has <br />undertaken an activity or program that, among other <br />things, stimulates creativity, demonstrates efficiency, <br />promotes economic viability, develops an awareness <br />among reddents and fosters a sense of coiiununity. Last <br />year, Richfield's Adaptive Recreation Program and <br />Minneapolis' CA Jt.E. program were co-wirmers. <br />Odes truly enter as many activities and/or projects as <br />they %vish. However, each entry must be submit^ <br />separately.
