/ <br />ORONO "FUN RUN" TO KICK OFF HEALTH FAIR <br />Orono High School has been designated as one of' over <br />sites in Minnesota and Wisconsin for HEALTH FAIR The^vOron <br />yociat^i^n <br />with <br />High School Homeroom Program and the Spartan Paren , <br />is joining KARE 11 and HealthSpan to provide area re^^^fte <br />free health screenings, demonstrations and health educatx«^|i5 <br />Monday, April 26, 1993. <br />% <br />'ff' <br />A kick off "Fun Run" will take place on Sunday, April 25th, <br />the day before the FAIR, at 1:00 p.m. Adults, students and <br />children are invited to register and enter a one-mile or a two- <br />mile run/walk. <br />On Monday, the FAIR will open to the public in the Orono <br />High School gymnasium from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Orono High <br />School students will have had an opportunity to attend the FAIR <br />during the school day. Free health screenings for visual acuity, <br />blood pressure, height and weight will be available to all <br />visitors to the FAIR. An optional total and HDL cholesterol plus <br />glucose profile will be offered for a $14.00 fee. <br />The goal of HEALTH FAIR 11 is to alert individuals to <br />possible health problems as well as to offer health education for <br />the entire family. It is not designed to take the place of a <br />physical examination by a doctor. <br />Throughout the day, health professionals and representatives <br />from various organizations and specialities will offer additonal <br />information pertaining to health and safety issues regarding all <br />age groups. They will be present at booths designated for: Ted <br />E. Bear Clinic from the Methodist Hospital Emergency Center; <br />American Cancer Society; We-it Suburban Teen C?.inic; Health First <br />Rehabilitation; Orono Chapter of SADD; Sojourner, a shelter for <br />battered women and children; Children Are People Support Groups; <br />and Ballys U.S. Swim and Fitness. <br />Specialists in the areas of mental health, pharmacology, <br />chiropractics, dermatology, ophthalmology, nutrition, and foot <br />care will also have booths as will representatives from NSP, Long <br />Lake and Maple Plain Fire Departments, Orono and Maple Plain <br />Police Departments, and Minneosta Office of Waste Management. <br />Information from the following organizations will also be <br />available: Kids For Sa/ing The Earth, Minnesota AIDS Project, <br />Life Source, American lung Association, American Diabetes <br />Association, Lyme Disease Network, Domestic Abuse Project, and <br />Missing children Minnesota (including photo and ID kits). <br />A Speakers Program has also been planned. Darcy Gilbert <br />from the State of Minnesota Human Services Department Equal <br />Distribution Program will dt .xibe phones that are adapted for <br />use by the elderly and the hearing, speech or physically <br />impaired, and which are available at no charge.
