MN 55323 <br />Dear Orono City Council Members. <br />Enclosed are my application for a position on Orono Planning Commission and related <br />information regarding my qualifications for and interest in this opportunity. <br />In summary, my work experience includes more than 20 years in marketing and <br />communications management in a variety of senings. Ba^ on my experience, I offer an <br />understanding of consumer behavior from a marketing perspective and how to communicate <br />with numerous publics on issues of mutual interest. My background is not specific to some <br />of the specific engineering, legal or construction orientations necessary to the Planning <br />Commission. On the contrary, perhaps I offer a business-oriented perspective to the mmy <br />important issues before the Commission, including a healthy dose of experience in relating to <br />the public in a variety of situati <br />My education includes a Master’s degree and I am currently a community faculty member at <br />Metro Slate University in marketing communications. I have held key positions in <br />professional trade associations, including the American Gas Association and the Mmnesota <br />Blue Flame Gas Association. My civic and volunteer activities include Big Brothers and Big <br />Sisten of Greater Minneapolis. We Can Ride. Sierra Club. Minnesou Artists Association, <br />Twin Cities Waiercolor Society and Save the Luce Line Area Committee. <br />My reasons for wanting to serve on the Planning Commission include the desire to explore <br />opportunities to creatively balance the need for economic growth with the environment in a <br />manner is consistent with the quality of life we enjoy as Orono residents. I have become <br />somewhat familiar with the Orono Comprehensive Plan and believe it provides a framework <br />for finding ways to strike the right balance. <br />No doubt the most significant issue facing our community is the proposed expansion of <br />Highway 12. I believe residents in both our state and our community will look to us for the <br />resolution of this important issue. In my role as a corporate executive in the energy <br />industry, I have experience in consensus building, balancing growth with the environmem <br />and communicating with various publics. I would like to put this experience to use on the <br />Planning Commission, particularly as it relates to this project.
