SAMPLE PROCLAMATION <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />March 7-14, 1993 <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service orsanUation, is celebrating <br />its 97th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the nation: it is therefore certainly <br />approp-'late for us, the City of CITY NAME, to join in the observance of this milestone with the <br />commemoration of March 7-14, 1993 as Volunteers of .America Week; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution by providing these <br />services to adults and the elderly: 5 homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br />dependent and/or elderly adults; congregate dining for seniors at 45 sites in Anoka and <br />Hennepin Counties; home delivered meals for persons 60 years of age and over; semi <br />independent living services and supported living services; 3 housing complexes for families, the <br />handicapped, and the elderly; and 4 long-term health care facilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of .America provides these services for children and youth: 6 <br />programs serving autistic, autistic-like, and/or development-ally disabled children and youth; a <br />children’s emergency shelter; in-home services; 59 foster treatment homes and correction group <br />homes; a residential treatment center for emotionally handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral <br />program for boys with severe problems; short-term after care for youth with special needs; and, <br />WTTFRFAS, the Volunteers of America provides 2 correctional services: a pre-release and work- <br />release correctional program serving men; and a women’s Jail, workhouse and work-release <br />correctional program; and, <br />WHEREiVS, the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff and volunteers and the many <br />people who help support their work through financial contributions make a significant impact <br />on the lives of people in CITY NAME’, and. <br />WllEREfVS, the Volun rs of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and urges others <br />to join them in bridging the gap between human needs and the resources of the public and <br />private sector; <br />NOW, IHERE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, MA YORS FIZL NAME, Mayor of the City of QH <br />SAME, do herebv proclaim the week of March 7-14, 1993, as <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA MEEK IN CITY S-'ME <br />^IND, BE IT RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be tiansmitted to ±e Volunteers of <br />America as evidence of our esteem. <br />IN WniS'ESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set niy hand and caused the Great Seal of 'he City <br />of CITY SAME to be afExed this____day of_______________in the year of our Lord one <br />thousand nine hundred and ninety three. <br />.M A Y O R
