Mabusth, Building & Zoning Administrator ^ February 2, 1993 Brief Review of Application The Art Center needs a directional sign at the intersection of Highways 15 and 51 for both students and visitors traveling west on County Road 15 from missing the right turn to the Art Center. The Code classifies signs as accessory structures or uses subordinate to or serving the principal use of structure on the same lot. In order »o install the sign on one of the residential lots at the intersection, it is necessary for applicant to apply for the variance. Keith Erickson, the owner of 2040 North Shore Drive, has given the applicant the approval to install the 8 foot h«gh directional sign at 3 s.f. Applicant has also worked closely with Hennepin County so that the location of the sign will not restrict siting at the intersecting roadways. Please review the enclosed staff memo for more detail and background. The Planning Commission recommended unanimous approval of the variance. The enclosed resolution reflects the findings and conditions of the Planning Conimission approval. I
